Two Projects by Computer Art Faculty Members and Alumni at Nathan Love featured on Motionographer

Developed and directed by Computer Art faculty members and alumni Joe Burrascano (2002) and Anca Risca (2008), the projects McGraw Hill Reading Wonders and Ring Force were featured recently on the website Motionographer.

In Wonders, Nathan Love joins forces with McGraw Hill Education to brand their all-encompassing reading program for kids. They have created an animated trailer for the program as well as a vast range of digital media, web products and marketing material. Other alumni involved in this project are Ryan Moran (faculty and '07 alumnus), Luis E. Perez ('08 alumnus), Ylli Orana ('05 alumnus), Eric Xu ('10 alumnus), David Han ('08 alumnus), David Avetisov ('06 alumnus) and David Lee ('11 alumnus), as well as current students from the class of 2013.

Ring Force is a children's book created by Nathan Love in the spirit of the 2012 Olympics. The books follows the adventures of five different kids, each with their own Olympic dreams. Another of our current students, Ellen Su (class of 2013), also worked on this project.

Collaboration at Curious Pictures by Faculty, Alumni & Current Students

The short film, Little Spirit: Christmas in New York, produced and directed by Curious Pictures, premiered Wednesday December 10th at 8:00 pm on NBC. The film involved several people from our department, including:

Below is a brief description:

When a friendly cabbie (Danny DeVito) tells two young sisters the story of a boy named Leo (Michael Hall D'Addario)who moved to Manhattan with his family, a magical adventure begins. While adjusting to the big city and enjoying the days leading up to Christmas, Leo accidentally loses his dog Ramona in Central Park. Leo is devastated by his loss until a magical creature named Little Spirit appears and takes him on a quest to find Ramona. Leo and Little Spirit venture out on the journey of a lifetime, taking in the festive surroundings of the city and meeting people from all walks of life. By the time Leo is reunited with Ramona, he has an eclectic group of friends that make the strange city seem like home.

2005 Alumni participate at VisionFest 2007

This year at VisionFest 2007, a biennial competition, screened films by four 2005 BFA Computer Art alumni. One Short of a Dozen by Anton Tokar & Kirill Yeretsky, The Life of a Mime by Jason Wolley, and Abridged by Joshua Harvey & Mats Andersson were part of the festival's "Visionary 100". VisionFest is a juried, student animation festival created by the New Media department in the School of Informatics at IUPUI (Indiana University, Purdue University, Indianapolis), and held in Indianapolis Indiana. The mission of VisionFest is to encourage, promote, and support the future development in the arts of animation, new media, and interactivity.

2005 Alumni films selected for Aarhus Festival of Independent Arts

The Aarhus Festival of Independent Arts (AFIA) has selected seven animated films by BFA Computer Art graduates to screen in Denmark next month. As part of the international short film competition, the SVA alumni films will be shown alongside works from an international array of artists demonstrating quality, innovation and vision in the film medium. An international jury will award the best films at the end of the festival. The short films screening at AFIA include these films by the SVA class of 2005:

Class of 2005 featured in Bermuda International Film Festival

The Bermuda International Film Festival’s Kids Film Festival has invited five animated films by BFA Computer Art graduates to screen this October as part of the Twisted Toons Teenscreen program. The Twisted Toons sidebar features the best of edgy international animation and is now in its third year. The short films screening in Bermuda include these films by the Class of 2005:

SVA Computer Art Alumni nominated for Student Academy Awards

The BFA Computer Art Department is pleased to announce that three films by the class of 2005 alumni are regional finalists for the Student Academy Awards. Only 7 films were selected as finalists in the animation category. Abridged, by Joshua Harvey and Mats Andersson, Eternity, by Travis Griggs and Ylli Orana, and Betty, by Rie Ito, will be a part of the regional finals to be held on Tuesday, April 27th at the Lighthouse Theater in Manhattan. A distinguished panel of judges will choose up to three animated student films to advance to the national finals. Winners of the National Student Academy Awards will be announced on June 11th at the National Academy Theater in Los Angeles.

Alumni featured in Brooklyn Arts Council International Film and Video Festival

Three films from the BFA Computer Art  class of 2005 were part of the Brooklyn Arts Council International Film and Video Festival. Abridged, by Joshua Harvey & Mats Andersson, One Short of a Dozen, by Anton Tokar & Kirill Yeretsky, and Eternity, by Travis Griggs & Ylli Orana, all won a place in the Student Film category, and were shown on May 2nd at the Spike Lee Screening Room at Long Island University. The festival is free and open to the public.

Class of 2005 featured in Red Stick Animation Festival

Ten short animated films by BFA Computer Art alumni have been selected to screen at the Red Stick Animation Festival (RSAF) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The RSAF, which takes place from April 20th-23rd, focuses on the worlds of technology, art and entertainment, disciplines that were once isolated from each other but are now converging in the 21st century. The RSAF highlights artists working with the medium of animation who are addressing this convergence through their craft. This year’s line-up will include these works by SVA class of 2005:

Class of 2005 Alumni to be featured in Anima 2006

Anima 2006, the Brussels Animation Film festival, has chosen Amanda Pecharsky's Modern Romance and Mark Corotan's Prologue to Chaos: Kindredd Saga, to screen in its Student Film Competition. The festival, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this March, presents some of the most outstanding work in the world of animation.
