2012 Computer Art alumni have great success at MetroCAF 2012!

This year, the 10th edition of the NYC ACM SIGGRAPH MetroCAF, TWELVE out of the total 26 films selected for the festival were by 2012 BFA Computer Art alumni, and TWO of them received Special Recognition Jury Awards. The following films screened at FIT's Haft Auditorium this past Friday, September 28:

This Friday is the MetroCAF Screening! As many of you know, we have lots of success at this competition every year and it's a great opportunity to see and reconnect with our alumni.

MetroCAF 2012 Screening Details Announced!

NYC ACM SIGGRAPH's MetroCAF will be celebrating it's tenth edition this year with a screening on Friday, September 28th, at 7:00pm at FIT's Haft Auditorium. MetroCAF is an annual computer animation festival that features pieces by students from NYC-area schools. This year 26 pieces will be featured at the screening and our students have had great success every year. Additionally, the jury selects four films to be recognized for outstanding achievement - these awards will be announced the night of the screening. So come out and support SVA Computer Art. We look forward to seeing you there!

2011 Alumni Featured In aNYmator Article About MetroCAF 2011

Recently posted on aNYmator, an online publication of ASIFA East, is an article by Tristian Goik about MetroCAF 2011. The article features two films by 2011 Computer Art alumni whose films were accepted and screened at the festival: Bounty + Hunter by Eugene Chu and Aquatic Bloom by Susie Hong and Bokyeong Kim. The image associated with the article is a still from Bounty + Hunter and the author includes some of Eugene's thoughts about his film: "He told me that his film demonstrates how the linearity of train travel plays off how we travel through our life-decisions and turn down different paths..."

Outstanding Success by 2011 Alumni at NYC ACM SIGGRAPH MetroCAF!

The ninth edition of MetroCAF featured TEN films by 2011 Computer Art alumni! MetroCAF is the annual NYC Metropolitan Area College Computer Animation Festival organized by the New York CIty chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH.

MetroCAF (Metropolitan Area College Computer Animation Festival) is an annual, juried competition produced by NYC ACM SIGGRAPH. It features the best student work from the NYC metropolitan region in the areas of computer animation, visualization, and special effects. 2009 Alumni accepted at 2009 MetroCAF

At this year's MetroCAF, the following four films will screen on the night of October 1st:

Abyssus by Christian Haniszewski and Rogelio Olguin
Magic Theatre by Jordan Harvey
Le Cou Cou by Zed Bennett
The Wizard of Odds by Sheri Wong

A total of twenty-six films were accepted this year from schools in the New York City metro area, including films from SVA's own MFA Computer Art Department. This year's jury consisted of Michelle Barfoot (Mercer County Community College), Lucien Harriot (Mechanism Digital), Nadia Husain (Big Star), Susie Jang (UVPhactory) and Cesar Kuriyama (Charlex). MetroCAF's screening is held at FIT's Haft Auditorium. Please come see these films screen and find out which films receive Jury Recognitions. 2008 Alumni dominate at MetroCAF 2009!

At this year's MetroCAF, our 2008 alumni had huge success - a total of eighteen out of thirty films were from SVA, thirteen of which were from our department! The following films screened the evening of September 25th at FIT's Haft Auditorium:

2008 Alumni participate at MetroCAF 2008 - September 25th, 2007

Since its inception in 2003, MetroCAF has provided an exciting opportunity for all students in the NYC metropolitan area to gain international exposure for their computer-generated imagery and make contacts within the NYC-area computer graphics community. ACM SIGGRAPH is a non-profit, professional computer graphics organization serving the greater New York City area.

Every year our graduating seniors submit their films to this festival and every year they have had great success. Last year six of our seniors' films screened at MetroCAF, two of which received Jury Recognitions, and ten senior films were featured the year before that. This year, thirteen of our 2008 graduates are included in the festival.

2007 Alumni dominate at MetroCAF 2007

On Thursday, September 27th, MetroCAF 2007 screened seven films by 2007 BFA Computer Art alumni. The films featured were:

Minchung Cho, Hyunjeen Lee and Sun Sik Na were awarded Jury Recognitions. MetroCAF screenings were held in the Fashion Institute of Technology's Haft Auditorium on W. 27th street between 7th and 8th Avenues in New York City. This is an exciting opportunity for students in the NYC metropolitan area to gain international exposure for their computer-generated imagery and make contacts in the computer graphics community.

Class of 2006 featured and honored in MetroCAF 2006

Ten films from BFA Computer Art department graduates once again dominated the MetroCaf this year. MetroCaf 2006, the fourth annual Metropolitan Area College Computer Animation Festival, is organized by the New York based AMC SIGGRAPH, an organization devoted to excellence in the Computer Graphics field. The following BFA alumni were featured in this year’s festival, gaining them international exposure for their films:
